My wildest dreams are going to come true in 20 years!
I used to wish that I could go back in time and invest in Microsoft so that I could give huge amounts of money to third world countries and solve the world's problems. Even with the absence of time travel I have had big dreams of being able to make a lot of money and do "more than just sponsor a child".
But it is now apparent that I had not thought that plan of action through very well.

One of the top three days of my life
Well well well. Visiting a Compassion project is no longer something I have to imagine, something I have to try and picture in my mind. It is no longer a mystery. It is now one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had.
To quote David Copperfield, (Settle down, not the book, the illusionist), I have never felt so much love in one room before. Don't get me wrong, I've certainly felt my fair share of love from time to time, but what stood out about the love I was getting from these Compassion kids was that I wasn’t quite sure where it was coming from.

Who am I to be eating this?
Well this is great. I'm experiencing a phenomenon that a lot of third world travelers experience upon arriving home, known as "reverse culture shock"… But I haven't even hopped off the plane into the third world yet.
I have been thinking a lot and learning a lot about the poverty that I am about to see. The Global financial crisis is affecting something even more worrying - the global FOOD crisis. In Bangladesh 80% of workers earn about a dollar a day, and up until about six months ago a bag of rice cost about 30c a kilo. But now thanks to the Global Financial Crisis a kilo of rice has risen 90% to 56c.

Rodney Olsen - Breaking the cycle

What does it really mean when we talk about breaking the poverty cycle?
It’s the kind of phrase that we often use when we’re talking about helping those in the developing world but do we really understand what it means in practical terms?

Rodney Olsen - A story of hope and Compassion

This Sunday I’ll get the chance to tell my story.
Well, it’s not really my story, it’s the story of the girl in the picture and of hundreds of thousands of other children who have been helped towards a better life thanks to people like you.

Daniel Widdowson - Dominican Republic

I’m so sorry not to have written for the past few days, internet access was incredibly slow for me. The past 5 days have been incredibly impacting, there are too many uplifting and heart wrenching stories to put it one diary entry. Stories of a beautiful Caribbean beach that looked immaculate at a glance, then the truth of child abuse burst through, stories of children completing the compassion projects and going on to do great things in their lives and for their communities, stories of children dying of the most simple things such as dehydration because their parents turned to the witch doctors instead of the compassions staff. As cliché as it may sound, this trip has definitely changed my perspective on the way I live. More

Fourteen steps
I don’t like grocery shopping at the best of times, but I particularly dislike it after a busy day at work when I feel tired and would prefer just to jump in the car and head straight home. However, having been away in Peru for two weeks, I found on my return that the kids had emptied the kitchen cupboards and so I needed to brave my local supermarket. More

I went to bed quite late last night, so apologies for no diary entry. There isn’t too much to tell about Thursday anyway, the first half of the day we spent resting, and our afternoon flight was delayed, so didn’t make it into the

Natalie Moses - 48 hours in Haiti

Now that we are back in Miami after a scary, but profoundly impacting, two days in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, I can reflect back on our time spent amongst the civil unrest in a country of people literally starving to death and unable to survive-with their only option to demonstrate and riot to get their voice heard.
